Two new restaurants sign at St Martin’s Courtyard, Covent Garden
27 January 2010
Two exciting restaurant concepts have signed to join the West End flagship of Jamie’s Italian at St Martin’s Courtyard, the new shopping and dining destination launching in Covent Garden this summer.
Cantina Laredo will open its first restaurant in Europe, bringing the authentic taste of gourmet Mexican cuisine to Londoners before embarking on a nationwide roll-out. Owned and operated in the UK by Oriole Restaurants Limited, Cantina Laredo will offer 220 covers, a feature bar specialising in tequila for the connoisseur and a private dining facility. CEO, Jackie Ginsberg, comments on the gap in the market for high-end Mexican cuisine, “In the UK, we consider Tex-Mex and Mexican food to be one and the same. Tex-Mex restaurants really don’t represent the depth and variety of authentic Mexican food, nor the skill required to prepare it. That’s where Cantina Laredo will step in.” Cantina Laredo spans two floors measuring 7,218 sq ft.
Dishoom is a new all day Indian Café concept from a group of entrepreneurs. Inspired by the old Bombay City Cafés, Dishoom specialises in authentic Indian grilled food. Stylish contemporary design, combined with Indian warmth and hospitality, will bring the best of vintage Bombay to St. Martin’s Courtyard. With a total floor space of 4,920 sq ft, Dishoom will seat 150 and is arranged on two floors.
Located at the junction of Long Acre and Upper St Martin’s Lane, St Martin’s Courtyard is a two acre mixed-use site comprising 23 shops, 5 restaurant/bars, 69,000 sq ft of premium office space and 37 luxury apartments all set around a landscaped courtyard with external seating for al fresco dining. Flagship stores including Banana Republic and Cos combine with independent boutiques to create a new urban village for the discerning shopper. The 40,000 sq ft HQ office has been pre-let to recruitment company Robert Walters PLC.
These two exciting new signings, both concepts brand new to London’s restaurant scene - complement Jamie’s Italian to create a truly eclectic eating and drinking offer. As the sole restaurant agent for the scheme, DCL is talking to a range of operators about the remaining two restaurant/bar units to create a dynamic new dining destination for the West End.
